We held a Repotting Evening!

On 29 Aug 2024, we held an in-house repotting evening! We’ve hosted repotting demos in the past at Plant Shop, namely, we were recently apart of NOMA’s Great British Garden Party earlier in August, showcasing how you can repot your houseplants at home. However, we specifically wanted to host one at Plant Shop this summer to celebrate the launch of our new repotting service. As you can probably predict, talking plants comes naturally to us, so we had a lovely time answering your questions and getting stuck in!

Highlights from the workshop.

Our cosy evening started with drinks, kindly gifted to us by our friends at Juiced the Tip, with a variety of different cordial flavours from Strawberry & Rhubarb to Lemon. Situated at the front of the shop, our care team expert, Phoebe, talked us through everything you need to know about repotting, with a hands-on demonstration using her own plants from home. Firstly, we went over how to create the perfect soil mix, using our sponsor GrowTropicals’ handy substrate bags. Then we covered how to add a moss pole, how to untangle roots, and how to care for them after repotting.

With each step-by-step, people were able to jump in with their questions when they came up. Things like: so how are you supposed to water your plants? And, can I use this soil mix with all my plants? Even our team learnt a thing or two!

Along with Phoebe’s plants, we also repotted a plant from our neighbours at The Good Rebel. They’d bought their Satin Pothos from us about a year ago, and it was in desperate need of some fresh soil. We used this as a good example of a plant that didn’t need a larger pot, but just refreshed soil for better watering and nutrients.

We were super excited to be sponsored by GrowTropicals for this event, who supplied us with the soil we used during the workshop. Their soil is a staple at Plant Shop - their resealable bags are perfect for stress-free repotting, and they’re full of peat-free goodness for your houseplants to thrive!

We were joined by a lovely group of people who were keen to learn more about keeping their houseplants happy. After Phoebe’s demonstration, we sat down together to help them repot their own plants that they’d brought with them. At the table, the soil was all ready to go, and everyone got to pick out a new pot for their plant. Plus, they could pick out any supports or moss poles they’d like to add to their plant. As the workshop wound down, everyone went home with the knowledge and confidence they need to repot their plants in the comfort of their own home!

Want to get involved in our next workshop? As we’re entering the colder months, we’re in the works to plan an all new workshop! Hint hint, it involves something beginning with T…

Thanks to everyone who came along!
