Plants for Businesses: An Insider Look
At Plant Shop, we recently collaborated with Jolie Studio for their recent project with COAT Paints, Colour Match with Jolie Studio, providing them with statement houseplants to complement their space. Jolie Studio first contacted us through our Plants for Businesses page, where we offer bespoke services for local businesses, looking to hire some plants for their upcoming photo shoot. We were especially excited to help them with this project when we found out it was in association with COAT, a fantastic sustainable paint company we stock in our Stockport shop. Jolie Studio were a joy to work with and they even purchased some of the plants to keep in their studio! This project has provided a great opportunity for us to deep-dive into our process, share with you the final results, and give you an insider look at our Plants for Businesses service here at Plant Shop.
When we first receive a Plants for Businesses request, we start by ensuring we know what service the client needs, whether it’s for purchasing, hiring, or a full space installation, as well as the duration and location of the project. For this particular project, Jolie Studio wanted to hire the plants for a few days for a photo shoot and filming in their Manchester studio. For other projects such as office space installations, we conceptualise and arrange a collection of houseplants based on the environment, light, and simple watering schedule - hardy plants that do well in varying conditions that are easy to look after. Since this project was for a short period, hardiness and care were less of a concern, and looks and size was understood as more important for this particular job.
The team at Jolie Studio used our website shop as a guide for figuring out what plants they liked, especially for larger plants that would be the statement pieces to their space. With our guidance, they picked out two plants on moss poles, the Monstera Adansonii and the stunning variegated Epipremnum Albo, which we recommended for their upright appearance and patterned leaves that would add some interest and green to the space. For smaller plants, the Tradescantia, Sansevieria, and Marble Queen Pothos were great for adding some pops of purple, cream, and yellow amongst the green, filling shelf space and table centrepieces. Because we were on a tight schedule, we recommended great plants that we had available in our shop, and any special requests were ordered for this time frame. They shared with us that they were interested in an XL Strelitzia, which we ordered especially for this project per their request. As Jolie Studio is an interior design studio, it was discussed that they required help providing plants and that pots and styling were not services they needed for this particular project. Meaning, after the plants were picked and ordered, the next step was organising delivery!

At Plant Shop, we hand-deliver our orders personally, wrapped in brown recyclable paper and twine to protect the plant’s leaves from damage and keep the soil from spilling. Before wrapping them, we give each plant a deep watering and clean so they are ready for the event. We delivered Jolie Studio’s order in advance of their photo shoot and arranged to pick them up a few days later when their shoot was over. On delivery, we answered any questions they had in terms of care and how they’d like to style them. Because they had just been watered, our client didn't need to worry about care during the project. For short hire periods such as this, our only tip is to keep the plants away from any strong, direct sunlight and to keep them inside to ensure they stay in great condition and avoid burnt leaves. For permanent plant installations, we provide the client with an in-depth care guide that lists each plant and its light/water/environmental requirements to help them care for their new collection of plants!
The last step left was to collect the plants! After we picked up the hired plants from Jolie, we asked if they had any feedback and were so pleased to hear the photo shoot went great. We let them know to get in touch with us anytime if they had any questions about caring for the plants they kept, and if we could help with any future projects.
